Staff in the Compliance Division monitor compliance, resolve disputes and enforce compliance with legislation and regulations.
The Division's work includes:
· complaint handling and investigation
· enforcement of fair trading, trade measurement, and consumer product safety issues
· enforcement actions on unsafe consumer products and bans/recalls/warnings, as part of a national product safety compliance regime
· policy development and research relating to consumer product safety.
Compliance Division comprises - Investigations, Trade Measurement, Compliance and Enforcement Unit and Consumer Product Safety.
Investigations
· Investigate complaints relating to marketplace activities, monitor compliance and enforce legislative breaches
· Investigate claims by consumers for compensation against the claim fund
Compliance and Enforcement Unit
· Operates a focussed marketeering task force to address property marketeering
Trade Measurement
· Inspect trade measuring instruments and goods sold by measurement
· Licence measuring instrument certifiers and public weigh-bridge operators
· Investigate trade measurement-related complaints and enforce legislative breaches.
Consumer Product Safety
· Investigate complaints relating to unsafe consumer products and enforces through bans, recalls, or warnings as a part of national product safety compliance regime.
· Research and develops policy relating to consumer product safety
· Investigate approximately 100 consumer product safety complaints each year
